Grocery shopping with my mom
I took my mom grocery shopping at Superior Grocers this week and it brought back memories of shopping in downtown Santa Ana. Strollers and little kids aside, it was a pretty pleasant experience. I loved walking around and seeing many of the foods that I grew up eating. I’m not a very good cook so my meals do not resemble what my mom makes, but just knowing the possibilities of those delicious meals was enough for me to start drooling!
There are so many Hispanic goodies that you probably won’t find elsewhere. Here are a few of my faves:
Banana leaves for tamales – especially the sweet corn tamales!
Bags of carrots and potatoes. I don’t get this one. I don’t remember carrots being such a big part of my diet growing up.
My favorite part in the grocery store – the bakery! Shelves filled with tres leches cakes and pan dulce (sweet bread).
A mini-tortilla factory where delicious tortillas, chips and tostadas are made.
Jarritos in every flavor available. I love this stuff!
Gallon-sized Tampico. A staple in my home growing up.
Queso fresco, crema, requeson, panela and every other delicious cheese you need for your Mexican food.
