Taking pictures with Santa is an experience that most kid look forward. However, sometimes it’s a bit difficult for all kids to enjoy a meeting with Santa when the scene is chaotic, loud and busy. This is why Simon Property Group partnered with Ability Path to host “Caring Santa” – an event dedicated to providing a calm, safe environment for kids with special needs to get their photos taken with Santa.
Many steps are taken to reduce sensory triggers, creating a more comforting environment for the children’s magical visit with Santa during “Caring Santa”. This environment is likely to include (specific elements or aesthetics may vary):
- Turning off in-mall music, stopping escalators located near the Santa set, dimming the lights, and shutting down fountains during the duration of the event.
- Eliminating queue lines through the use of a numbering system whereby guests approach the set when their number is called.
- Special activities and stories geared toward the needs of the child during the ‘wait’ period to help the child understand what activities will occur during the visit.
“Caring Santa” offers kids who need a more subdued environment the opportunity to participate in a fun, holiday activity with Santa and it’s happening this Sunday, December 2nd from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at Westminster Mall!
Participants are encouraged to RSVP for the “Caring Santa” event at Westminster Mall by going to http://www.AbilityPath.org. You can also see other locations where “Caring Santa” events are taking place.
