The kids are always up for a new show to stream. Recently, we partnered with Amazon Prime Instant Video where we stream “Creative Galaxy.” We saw a few episodes of Creative Galaxy, a show that is a make-along, create-along, interactive art adventure series for preschoolers. The characters, Arty and Epiphany, travel around the galaxy to solve problems with art, inspiring creative thinking through crafts, music and dance.
Both my kids sat through a few episodes, but only my three year old was really interested in it. While my oldest (6 years old) thought it was a little too “baby” for him, my three year old liked the characters and their personalities. He liked how the kids were funny, how happy they sounded when they talked and the art projects they created.
I personally liked the different textures in the show. It had a layered look to it and it reminded me a lot of a collage. I also liked how the show provided real-life tools that we (as parents) need to re-create the character’s experience. At the end of each episode, there is a live-action piece at the end of each animated episode that takes viewers through the craft project that Arty (one of the characters) showcased in the galaxy.
Unfortunately, even my three year old isn’t much into art, so while he liked watching the show and seeing Arty and friends create pieces of art, he himself was not too happy about recreating the project. It’s a cute show for the younger kids, but I think if the child is into art, it will be a better experience.
The shows feature different art-revolving themes including creating art wherever you are and showcasing popular artists. The art that “Arty” creates is also animated, so kids see it come to life. In some cases, you can even give your child the tools that they need to create art just like the ones that are on the screen! Think “cream cheese” art that they can do by dyeing cream cheese different colors and spreading it on bread. Easy-peasy!
The series is designed to support a child’s natural inclination to use their imaginations, make and create. You can catch episodes of Creative Galaxy on Amazon Prime Instant Video now by visiting: http://clvr.li/XW3oyJ.
