I think I love back-to-school time just as much as my kid. It’s the feeling of a new year without having to wait until January 1st. We get new shoes, clothes, accessories, and best of all – a clean slate at school.
I like to wait until the last possible moment to go back-to-school shopping. I think the best deals come at the end of Summer when all the stores are trying to get rid of their insanely cute products. All the hot trends are still in stores around this time, but at reduced prices! More bang for my buck, mami!
As in previous years, we headed to Westminster Mall to pick up some necessities for the kid. He’s heading into first grade and has grown out of his t-shirts and needs some new accessories. While at Westminster Mall, we also checked out the must-haves for kids and we’re sharing them with you! Stick around because there’s also a $50 AmEx gift card giveaway at the bottom.
Icing has the coolest and biggest array of suspenders. Everything from rainbow animal prints to just plain black – they are sure to make your kid’s outfits POP!
Frozen is still ever so popular with the chicas (and chicos too)! Backpacks, purses and even umbrellas are a great way to incorporate Elsa and Anna into their every day school life.
The always popular skinny jeans are here to stay. This season, give them an update by sporting them in bright colors like these red and neon yellow ones.

One of the best parts of being a kid is being able to wear all kinds of funky jewelry. The ones at Icing take the cake… literally! I’m totally crushing on the rainbow spiky ball necklace.
Whether your kid wants to go all out and don orange in a bright puffer vest or just a touch of orange accent in a sweater, orange is a stellar color this year. It’s great year round, and especially on point for Fall.

One of the best patterns that go from Summer to Fall is plaid. This preppy-like pattern is made better when it comes in subdued colors like burnt orange, navy blue and gray.

These type of t-shirts are versatile because they layer well and are the perfect amount of funky to a drabby blue jeans outfit. Best of all, they will last a whole year of boyness and still be relevant when they’re passed down to younger siblings.
