Why Grand Solmar at Rancho San Lucas is the family-friendly luxury vacation you’ve been wanting

I took the chiclets on the most amazing family-friendly luxury vacation to Grand Solmar at Rancho San Lucas. It was stress-free, a ton of fun for the entire family and just the relaxation that we needed.

The Grand Solmar at Rancho San Lucas is about two years old (as of the day of this publication) and already getting a reputation for being a luxurious destination.

The resort offers both the European plan where you purchase meals individually, and the all-inclusive plan, where guests can indulge in spectacular dining all day long without having to keep track of expenses.

Let me tell you though, when you book a stay at this resort I would highly recommend getting the all-inclusive plan.

You’ll want to experience everything that Chef Héctor Lucas has created. He has found a way to not only elevate Mexican food, but also keeps it traditional. It’s the perfect blend of both worlds.

Also, I would say that the chilaquiles and sopes are can’t miss meals, but you really can’t go wrong with any of the meals on their extensive menus.

If you’re into libations… then visit David at the Anica Restaurant where he creates custom cocktails and has something special planned for every occasion.

Their resident sommelier, Jose, is also an expert on all things wine and tequila. Go ahead and ask him what he thinks of Patron — his answer will surprise you!

There are currently six eateries on the property including two restaurants, three bars and a cafe/deli.

The younger guests will see familiar Mexican dishes such as enchiladas and quesadillas. Their refried beans are also absolutely delicious (and lard free!).

With the option of dining indoors and out, families can rest assured that they’ll find a place where the whole family can be together regardless of what mood the kids are in that day.

Of course, there’s also the option to dine in your oceanview suite! Each suite offers a kitchen where families can sit together and enjoy a meal, either cooked by them or via room service.

The kitchens in the suite offer silverware, pots, pans, and other cooking essentials. Guests also have the option of stocking the kitchen with pantry items and refrigerated goods before they arrive when booking their stay.

Families traveling together will want to book either a master suite or a presidential suite. These options offer more privacy due to their separate bathroom areas and doors that close off the bedrooms to the living and kitchen areas.

The master suite is perfect for small families of up to four people (or up to three kids) and is made up of a master bedroom with a king size bed and a bathroom that has both a bath and a shower.

A queen-size murphy bed is located between the living area and the kitchen area, and can sleep two. Both rooms have access to the balcony and mounted televisions.

The Presidential Suite is great for larger families and you can see this in their larger kitchen area (the island seats six!) as well as in the bedrooms.

Every suite is decorated in a way that makes you feel like you’re at home. Personal touches such as the hanging art and custom furniture brings luxury to guests through its texture and beautiful finishes.

Out in the resort, guests can walk the grounds and really grasp the oasis feel of Grand Solmar at Rancho San Lucas. The property is oceanside, but also offers the convenience of water activities at its salt water lagoon so guests don’t have to leave the property to have fun on the water.

At the salt water lagoon, guests can rent kayaks, go paddle boarding, try the Tarzan rope and even workout!

There is also a mini waterpark with two water slides and a water play area surrounded by lounge chairs so parents can keep an eye on the younger children.

Food is available throughout the resort and located near all the water areas so parents don’t have to walk far to grab a meal or a drink.

Kids will also love the sand areas surrounding the salt water lagoon where they can build sand castles and just simply play in the sand. Parents will love the feel of the sand between their toes with the convenience of not having to go walk through the sand to get the perfect spot.

Grab a seat near the activities center and watch the kids play with a tetherball or play ladder with them on the sand. When you want a change of scenery, move over to the lounge chairs by the heated pools and jacuzzis and enjoy some water play there.

And speaking of luxury and convenience, these two come into perfect harmony with the combination of their sweet and happy kids club along with a day at The Spa by the Ocean. Kids will love hanging out in their spacious kids club and have some fun with arts and crafts, catch a movie, play video games, or maybe just play in their pirate ship slide (it ends in a ball pit!). Viri at the Kids Club also hosts a party exclusively for kids every week.

While the kids have fun at the Kids Club at Grand Solmar, you can enjoy some time at The Spa by the Ocean and try one of their many experiences including massages, facials and body experiences.

I can tell you from personal experience that the treatments are top notch and the icing on the cake is the location. Every treatment takes place in a cabana that opens up to the ocean breeze and sounds of the waves crashing against the sand.

In my case, I had the “Tamma Wakoe” spa treatment that included an 80-minute massage and lunch. It was completely surreal and I felt like I was in a trance as I found my way out of the cabana and into the dining area. It was the ultimate luxurious experience.

My best piece of advice is to get there early to take advantage of the jacuzzi and lounge area, and splurge on their experiences that include a three-course meal.

If you happen to be at Grand Solmar at Rancho San Lucas on either a Monday or a Friday, you’ll find that the resort sets up a free movie night on the lawn. A giant outdoor screen is set up and lounge chairs are arranged for families to come together and enjoy a family-friendly film. Popcorn is provided free of charge as well, and you can really turn it into a night by ordering a meal from their deli.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a luxury getaway without some much-loved amenities like laundry service, a concierge, an on-site doctor and a full-service beauty parlor (ask for Martha if you want to get a haircut! She did mine and I love it).

If you can tear yourself away from this exquisite resort to go into town, you’ll find a complimentary shuttle every hour on the hour that takes you to their other resort property in Los Cabos, Solmar Resort, that is only steps away from the marina in Cabo San Lucas. I would also recommend checking out my last article on family-friendly ways to be adventurous in Los Cabos to book an adventure before your stay.
