Visiting Total Woman Gym & Spa

I can’t remember the last time I stepped inside a gym (other than the ones at hotels). They’re overwhelming, filled with fit and muscle-loaded men and women, and frankly, my self-esteem can’t take it right now. After two kids with a belly to prove it, I need a place where I can workout and not feel like I’m being judged. A place like Total Woman Gym and Spa.

I visited Total Woman Gym + Spa last month and walked away with nothing but good thoughts, vibes and a feeling of wanting to stay there longer. Here’s a glimpse of what you can expect if you visit Total Woman Gym and Spa in Irvine.

The day I visited Total Woman Gym & Spa was one of the days during their Camp Total Woman Summer Contest. An incentive program meant to keep women from staying away too long during the Summer, it was all about encouragement and accountability. Right off the bat, I knew I would like the environment. And oh… the smell. It smelled so incredibly good and clean in the gym. I couldn’t get enough of it.

Total Woman Gym & Spa is split up into two sections. The section with the gym and the section with the spa. The gym hosts all your traditional elliptical machines, free weights, treadmills, etcetera.

The gym also offers a private Pilates room where you can receive lessons from a certified instructor. The Pilates machines have always looked intimidating to me, but I wouldn’t mind giving them a try sometime.

Group classes are also offered and according to their schedule, they have them as early as 5:30 a.m. You could definitely hit the gym before work and/or kids’ school if you get there that early.

But wait, you’re a stay-at-home mom with kiddies? Then you’re going to love their child care program. They have this fully toy-stocked room complete with play areas, baby swings, rockers, bathrooms and video games. It’s absolutely perfect for the kids. My favorite part was the security camera that they have installed outside of the kid’s room. This way, you can keep an eye on the kids while you work out in the gym area. So thoughtful!

A jacuzzi, steam room and sauna rounds out the gym portion. The thoughtful touches like the infinity sinks in the restroom is one that I appreciate (and I’m sure you do too).

I worked out for about an hour, took a shower (and took advantage of their complimentary shampoo and body wash), and then waited in the “quite room” for Erica, my esthetician, to come grab me for my facial.

My facial was pure bliss. She walked me through each step and even included a shoulder massage AND a foot rub! What service!

I also learned that you can take advantage of the spa services without being a gym member or even working out beforehand. Simply make an appointment with the spa and that’s it. Come chill out in the quiet room before your appointment and read a magazine, drink some tea and relax.

My esthetician used Epicuren products for my facial. It lasted about an hour and I almost booked a massage right on the spot. I didn’t want to leave! If you’re a gym member, you’ll get discounts on all spa services too. Not a bad deal.

I really fell in love with this gym. I loved hearing the women talk about their weekends, what they were making for dinner, party plans they had, and so much more. There was a real camaraderie in the room and it didn’t feel like such a workout. Having the option of doing a facial or massage after busting my butt at the gym is certainly an incentive to come back to Total Woman Gym & Spa.
