My breast augmentation experience at CosmetiCare

My breast augmentation experience at CosmetiCare - LivingMiVidaLoca.comThis year was full of changes, and for me the biggest change was my breast augmentation. It was something that I had been longing to do, and I’m so happy that this year it came to fruition. For this big change, I had the opportunity to partner with CosmetiCare, the same team that I trust with all my cosmetic procedures. I knew that I was in good hands because of their great reputation, outstanding before and after results, and experience. I didn’t have anything to worry about, and that helped to reduce my anxiety that I had over the procedure.

Partnering with them also gave me the opportunity to share my breast augmentation story with you. I lifted the veil off of this procedure and laid everything out for you. From how “normal” this procedure is nowadays to my biggest surprise of the procedure (and yes, it has something to do with sex). In return, I’ve gotten personal messages from other women who have also undergone the procedure and others who looked to me for advice.

I invite you to read my series if you (or your significant other) have been thinking of getting a breast augmentation. And if you have any questions, I’d be happy to try and answer them. ¡besos! 💋

Video Updates

I’m so glad I was able to gather my initial thoughts and reactions in these short videos! They went live originally on my YouTube channel, but I was also able to reference them later as I wrote down my thoughts, tips and suggestions as well.

Thank you so much for following my story and for your comments and messages as I went through with this procedure. It’s something that I had been wanting to do for over a decade and this year, it just felt “right.” I do hope that you reach out to the amazing team at CosmetiCare if you’re considering having any type of surgical procedure done because they made everything so manageable and easy for me to follow. I’m extremely happy with my results, and I know that you would be too.

Breast surgery before and after pictures

I’ve gotten comfortable with my body in the months since the breast augmentation. I’m still fighting the 15 pounds that I’ve gained though, but I’m happy to see that my new boobs have not gotten in the way of working out. I have also purchased just a handful of clothes because I did outgrow a few blouses and sports bras, and I picked up a few new bras too. I’m super happy with my body, and you can see a difference in my breast surgery before and after pictures.

So I had already gotten a bit of a preview thanks to CosmetiCare and their New Look Now program where I had the opportunity to “try on” my breasts before the big day. This was the rendition that they provided me:

And this is the real “after” picture:

Before and after breast augmentation

I think that’s pretty close, don’t you? I had originally shared the picture where I’m wearing the green jumpsuit to show you what I looked like in a bathing suit. My “after” shows a swimsuit that is filled out, but not so much that it gives the fake look that I never wanted.

This second before and after picture shows a more date-night/event type of look. The first picture was taken in February, when breast augmentation was just something I wished to do. The “after” picture is me, wearing the same dress, at an event with the Hubster. I went without a bra, which I’m happy to still be able to do, and the dress fit so much better. I used to have to use breast pads just to fill it out a bit more – but not anymore.

I’m so happy with my results, and how my before and after pictures show what I wanted from the procedure in the first place. Something that was natural-looking, nothing over-the-top, and the ability to go without a bra. Five months later, the “drop and fluff” period has happened and the results are phenomenal.

Tips for faster recovery from breast implants

It’s been a heck of a ride and I’ve learned so much along the way as I navigated the waters of my new breast implants. I feel like I learned so much that I just HAVE to share all my tips for faster recovery from breast implants with you! So that if you too decide to get it done, you’ll have a few tricks under your sleeve to make your recovery even faster.

Tips for faster recovery from breast implants - LivingMiVidaLoca.com

Tips for faster recovery from breast implants

  • Make sure to have water and bendy straws. It’s frustrating to go for a drink of water and see that the cup is just an inch too far from you. And then to be able to reach it but it hurts to tip the glass.
  • Create a nest of pillows for comfort and support. I recommend a bed rest pillow because it holds you in one place like a cocoon.
  • Slept well elevated to avoid swelling.
  • Have button shirts available, or if you’re running low, then grab men’s shirts.
  • Place your pills in pill planner box because opening the pill containers will make your chest hurt.
  • Use a safety pin to keep the breast wrap in place (if you’re asked to use one).
  • Lose about five pounds before your surgery because you won’t be able to do much after the surgery.
  • Buy a puzzle or create a list of ways to keep busy
  • Set money aside for scar removal products. I used Scar Recovery Gel by Skin Medica and Silagen silicon gel sheets.
  • Your breast will hurt when you get too cold, keep them warm by crossing your arms as you go through the grocery store or wear breast pads in your bra.
  • Use Dove Dry Spray in place of your regular deodorant because this aerosol deodorant will help you apply deodorant quickly and painlessly.
  • Keep your breasts clean with Garnier Skinactive Micellar Cleansing Water, especially because you cannot use the shower head to do so. Wipe off with a cotton ball.
  • Use bar soap to wash your hands and body because the soap pump will strain your chest muscles.
  • Purchase the Posture Corrector Wireless Back Support Bra by Leonisa before your surgery. Go up a size because they run small. This will be the bra you’ll use before you can start using underwire bras again.
  • Get your underarms waxed because you won’t really be able to do that the weeks following the surgery, and even shaving will hurt.
  • Use the cool setting on your blow dryer to dry off the bandages. this way they won’t fall off before they’re supposed to.
  • Set up an appointment at a hair salon so you can get your hair washed the week after your surgery.

Get a visual on some of the tips mentioned above in my week 4 video update.

What I asked at my breast augmentation post op visit

My first breast augmentation post op appointment was the day after the surgery. It was later in the day (and not at 5:30 like the day before) and again, I had the Hubster take me. I wore the same pink sweater partly because I was too tired to change into another sweater, and partly because I didn’t want to mess around with any buttons or zippers around my chest area.

I was still a bit out of it and so I was thankful for the speedy visit. I did have a few questions that I had written down to ask (more on that below) because I didn’t want to forget.

The nurse and Dr. Niccole came in and they cut off the compression bandages and revealed my new breasts. Because I had slept practically sitting down the entire night, I had no swelling. He checked to make sure that everything looked normal. And he noted that one side was higher than the other. So he gave me a strap to put around my chest in a “figure eight” to help bring one side down more. I also received a great tip for making sure that the strap stays where it should – use a safety pin!

I was also able to see the bandages for the first time since the surgery. They were on in strips right under my breasts. I noticed a line that went down from my nipple to under the bandages. I was, of course, concerned about that but they let me know that it was just a mark that the bra had made because of the swelling. Whew! Nothing to worry about.

The visit was short and sweet, and I was happy to hear that I was on the path to a speedy recovery. I put my black bra back on (the one that had been provided to me after the surgery) and came home to do more of nothing.

The second day also gave way to less medication. I cut out Tylenol with Codine and just took Extra Strength Tylenol every six hours along with antibiotics twice a day (which give me nausea). No food restrictions.

Before I left, I asked my questions.

Breast augmentation post-op questions

What is my new bra size? (I was previously a 34B)
CosmetiCare does not guarantee a certain size because bra sizes will vary. It’s best to visit a bra shop and get sized then.

When can I wear underwire bra?
In about four weeks. Dr. Niccole will let me know.

When can I wear regular bra?
Soon, but it was suggested to buy Playtex bras at Target.

When can I have alcohol?
Two weeks after surgery

When will the sensation to my nipples return?
In about six to 12 months

Can I be around cats?
Yes

When will the band aids come off?
Four weeks after surgery

Do I have to wear a bra day and night for the time being?
Yes

Why do I have to wait four to six weeks to have sex?
Sex may cause a hemorrhage. I asked Dr. Niccole how I would know that I’m hemorrhaging. He said the breast would get really full and big and it would hurt a lot.

Should I massage the breasts?
No massaging the breast yet, at least not for a couple of weeks.

My next follow-up appointment was scheduled for the following week to see how the breast implants are settling in. You can see that video update here.

What happened the day of my breast augmentation surgery

The big (no pun intended) day of my breast augmentation surgery had finally arrived! I received my appointment time the day before – 5:30 a.m. – and I made sure to tell the Hubster so that he could get plenty of rest because I would be freaking out the entire way over there and wouldn’t be much help.

I followed the instructions given to me at my breast augmentation pre-op appointment and wore a comfortable pair of bottoms and a pink zippered sweater. I was the first patient of the day and so I went through the paperwork and first part of the process pretty quick. Before I knew it, I was standing in a small office, changed into the gown provided by CosmetiCare and took a pill to help combat any nausea.

I went into the operating room, laid down on a narrow bed and waited for the anesthesiologist to come in. Soon after, Dr. Niccole came in to say hi and helped me calm my nerves a bit. I was SUPER nervous about the anesthesia. More than anything, I was freaking out about the possibility of not waking up from the procedure. It may sound crazy and unreasonable, but it was the only thing that I could think of. It was too late to turn back. So I laid down, looked at the lights hanging over my head and next thing I knew, I was in the recovery room.

Before I lost complete consciousness, I told the nurses to feel free to grab my phone and snap a couple of pictures so that I could share with you. It was a little eerie to go through my phone later and see these pictures, knowing that it had happened while I was away in la-la-land.

I woke up and I literally had no idea where I was. A few moments later, I realized what had happened and just a few minutes after that, I was helped into a wheelchair and into the Hubster’s car. Every bump on the road home was painful. I felt every pebble on the road, every turn and I asked him to get me home as soon as possible because I couldn’t stand the pain.

I was given Tylenol with Codeine to take every four hours for the pain, and Extra Strength Tylenol every two hours after that (if needed), which I did for the first full day. The Hubster and I had both gone over the post-surgery instructions over and over a million times so we knew that I had to be kept elevated, that I probably wouldn’t be hungry and that I might have nausea. I was given a new antibiotic medicine to take because the other one gave me nausea.

I asked the Hubster to take this pic so I could document the process. While I may look very serene and calm in the photo, I can tell you that inside I felt like I was suffocating and I could not take deep breaths. I needed a lot of help from the Hubster to do anything. My chest felt like it was being pulled apart and even when I tried to lie down I really couldn’t. I had to have a lot of help (and a lot of pillows). Also, I felt like a T-rex. Yes, the dinosaur. I couldn’t use much of my upper body because of my limited movement. So I had to rely on my leg muscles a lot. If you’re in the process of getting a breast augmentation, I would like to offer you these tips to make your day go a little smoother:

Tips for Day of Breast Augmentation

  • Have water close to you and bendy straws to go with it.
  • Go with desk-type pillows and stack them to help you sit up
  • Sleep well elevated to avoid swelling
  • Have a button shirt available to change into when needed
  • Have your pills readily available in a pill box because opening the pill containers will hurt your chest

At the end of the day, I was only too happy to be drugged up for this day and get me on the road to recovery. The following day I would have to go in for my first follow-up appointment. Check back later for that post. Meanwhile, this is a first look at my new breasts PLUS a video that I made the day I got home.
