Kids Teeth Tips: The right products and making oral care fun

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Waterpik.

I am diligent with a selective amount of tasks when it comes to the kids – oral care is one of them. Of course, I can’t do it alone and eventually they need to be able to do it themselves so it’s been super important for me to establish a routine.

So anyhow, my niños have the most amazing teeth – and I mean it in the most non-bragging kind of way. They inherited their super straight teeth from the hubster and I’m doing everything I can to keep them healthy, shiny and in the long run, save time and money on braces.

Tips for keeping your kids' teeth healthy | #NewAgeInWaterFlossing

I’ve learned a few tips that have helped me keep their teeth nice and healthy. I’m sharing them with the hopes that you’ll tell me one or two tips to keep them interested in healthy teeth as they grow up.

Which way should you brush your teeth?

Aim the bristles on your toothbrush at the gum line at a 45-degree angle and brush in a circular motion. Do not brush side-to-side. It’ll ruin your enamel.

What kind of toothpaste should kids use?

Use a fluoride toothpaste (you know, the ones with the fun characters on the tube?) and use a small, pea-size amount of toothpaste if they’re two years and older. If under two, consider using non-flouride toothpaste, just in case they swallow it.

What kind of toothbrush should kids use?

It’s important to have the right toothbrush to be more effective when brushing their teeth. Babies can start off with the thumb brushes that fit over your finger. Toddlers should have toothbrushes that have wide, easy-to-grip handles, small, narrow heads and soft bristles. The older kids should have toothbrushes that have slightly longer handles which, by now, they should be able to use thanks to their improved coordination. The heads on these toothbrushes will also be larger to accommodate growing mouths and teeth.

How can I make brushing time more fun?

It’s hard for kids to get excited over brushing their teeth, and those musical toothbrushes get expensive – fast. So we rely on a toothbrushing playlist that I created using some of our favorite songs that talk about brushing your teeth. It’s fun, upbeat and it keeps the kids distracted for three minutes.

How can I make flossing fun for kids?

My favorite way to floss my kids’ teeth is by using the Waterpik Aquarius Professional Water Flosser because it’s the easiest, most effective and fun way to floss. It also happens to be the most advanced water flosser ever.

We’ve been using a Waterpik Water Flosser since 2011 when they looked like this.

In 2011, my oldest was three years old. And that’s when we started using the water flosser. He loved it from the get go. The new Waterpik Aquarius Professional is even better than the old version because it has the on/off water control on the handle that makes it easier to use and less of a mess. It also has an added water flossing mode – massage, in addition to the regular floss mode. The new model also has 7 water flosser tips and thankfully, they kept the tip storage under the lid. Makes everything so much neater.

In addition to making flossing more fun, the Waterpik Aquarius Professional water flosser is also clinically proven to improve gum health, versus just using string floss. It’s like giving your teeth a run through a waterfall. By the end of your session, it leaves your mouth feeling incredibly fresh and clean.

How to remove your makeup in two simple steps

By the time 8 p.m. hits, I am done. The niños are in bed, I’m getting ready to work the night shift at my computer and I have to show up with a freshly cleansed face. Fortunately, I have my makeup removing routine down pat thanks to my recent partnership with Latina Bloggers Connect and Neutrogena.

How to remove your makeup in two simple steps - #NeutrogenaRostroLimpio

I’ve been a fan of Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes for a while now. Not only because it removes 99.3% of all traces of dirt, oil, and makeup, but because I feel amazing after the makeup comes off and I can see my clean, fresh skin afterwards.

Pass the White Towel Test

My go-to makeup removing process takes just a few minutes. Start off by using the Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes then wash your face with a daily cleanser (I like the classic Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash) and dry your face with a white towel. ¡Lista! It’s the modern version of your mom’s “wash your face with a bar soap” routine. Except, this way you have the Neutrogena brand behind you – the one recommended by dermatologists two times more than any other brand.

I can never get my lashes to curl, unless I apply waterproof mascara to them. Unfortunately, it’s super difficult to remove waterproof mascara with just soap alone. Using the Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes I was able to get my lashes back to their natural state with just a few swipes across my eye lids. Try it for yourself – you’ll only need one wipe!

Inspired by Julia Roberts’ custom couture black lace Givenchy gown, celebrity makeup artist Genevieve Herr gave the Lancôme Ambassadress a glamorous, smoky eye for tonight’s red carpet. Keeping the focus on classic, contoured, smoldering eyes, Herr left the rest of the face clean with an elegant, nude lip.

Bathtub fun with Mega Bloks First Builders Build ‘n Splash

All three of my kids had oodles of fun when they played with the Mega Bloks Build N’ Splash Toy. In particular my 3 year old loved her bath time because she was able to build with her new sea friends. It was easy for her to use and easy to put together. Her little hands were able to grasp the blocks and create whatever her imagination wanted. The cool thing also was that we had some First Builders blocks that were compatible with the Build N’ Splash Toy. My daughter was excited to expand her building collection in the tub and get more creative.

My personal favorite was the draining basket that you can place anywhere on the tub. After bath time, the kids placed their blocks in the draining basket allowing them to dry. That kept the tub nice and organized, and it so prevents from the blocks creating mildew. I also like that they are not bulky or ugly, it can match any color scheme or theme in your child’s bathroom.

All of my children enjoyed how the red octopus has a suction cup that you can stick on the bottom or side of the tub. Each of my children created their own little project on different areas of the tub. Each child played in the tub for almost an hour, that’s how much fun they were having with their blocks! They were counting and making patterns which they are into right now.

We will be definitely taking a trip to the toy store to buy additional seaworthy friends to add to their collection of Build N’ Splash Toy.
