Bathtub fun with Mega Bloks First Builders Build ‘n Splash

All three of my kids had oodles of fun when they played with the Mega Bloks Build N’ Splash Toy. In particular my 3 year old loved her bath time because she was able to build with her new sea friends. It was easy for her to use and easy to put together. Her little hands were able to grasp the blocks and create whatever her imagination wanted. The cool thing also was that we had some First Builders blocks that were compatible with the Build N’ Splash Toy. My daughter was excited to expand her building collection in the tub and get more creative.

My personal favorite was the draining basket that you can place anywhere on the tub. After bath time, the kids placed their blocks in the draining basket allowing them to dry. That kept the tub nice and organized, and it so prevents from the blocks creating mildew. I also like that they are not bulky or ugly, it can match any color scheme or theme in your child’s bathroom.

All of my children enjoyed how the red octopus has a suction cup that you can stick on the bottom or side of the tub. Each of my children created their own little project on different areas of the tub. Each child played in the tub for almost an hour, that’s how much fun they were having with their blocks! They were counting and making patterns which they are into right now.

We will be definitely taking a trip to the toy store to buy additional seaworthy friends to add to their collection of Build N’ Splash Toy.

Vegetarian Vegetable Soup with Chicken-free Strips Recipe

I’m a sucker for easy recipes that pack a punch. This vegetarian vegetable soup is one of my favorites because it takes very little effort on my part, is packed full of veggies and protein, and when my oldest kid sees it he says, “I want to eat it every day, all day.” Kid-approved!

how to make Vegetarian Vegetable Soup with Chicken-free Strips Recipe - livingmividaloca.com

As a vegetarian, I need to be conscious of adding protein to our meals, so that’s when I head to protein-packed products like Beyond Meat. Beyond Meat has become my go-to chicken-free strips of choice because it is so incredibly easy to use, and it’s delicious! The texture is spot-on (from what I remember) and the flavor never fails. Try it next time you want make a vegetarian dish, or simply want to try something new.

Make this vegetarian vegetable soup in multiple batches and freeze for future use. It’s great with some added lemon, or make it creamy by adding some sour cream to it before serving. ¡Delicioso!

Visiting Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlour in Buena Park

Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour in Buena Park | LivingMiVidaLoca.com #Farrells

I just had a “first” in Orange County that I was able to share with the kids – visiting Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlour in Buena Park. I agree with everyone else on this one too, Farrell’s lives up to the hype. It’s entertaining, their food is delicious, the ice cream es lo mejor and their staff is as upbeat as I’ve seen and heard. Buena Park is a lucky city to be getting such a fun family-friendly restaurant.

Located on Beach Boulevard, just past Knott’s Berry Farm and right before hitting Stanton, Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlour is the spot to be when you want a good ol’ fashioned, family-friendly restaurant that is perfect for kids of all ages. It’s a total cliché – but it fits right in with Farrell’s image! It’s a step back in time as soon as you walk through the doors. The red, blue and white theme resonates throughout the restaurant and its clean vintage look creates a stage for its cast members and drool-worthy food.

Strawberry Ice Cream Soda

The kids, hubster and I visited Farrell’s for lunch and let loose with what we ordered. We each ordered whatever looked good saving plenty of room for ice cream, and even making sure to include ice cream whenever possible. Case in point: strawberry ice cream soda. It was my first time enjoying such a treat. The cast mixes cream, soda water, syrup, strawberries and then adds a scoop of strawberry ice cream and whipped cream to the glass. When it gets to your table, you tip it into the glass and then mix it all together. So very, very good. I suggest letting the ice cream melt a bit to give it a stronger strawberry flavor.

Rainbow Sherbet Ice Cream Shake

The kids and I shared a rainbow sherbet ice cream shake that totally hit the spot. It went perfect with my grownup grilled cheese sandwich (to which I added avocado and tomato), and with their olive-topped pizza. We finished off the shake before dessert, including the extra that they give you on the side. The ice cream at Farrell’s is top-notch and we couldn’t wait to dig in to one of their specialities – the Ice Cream Nachos.

The Ice Cream Nachos is one of their “Rebels” items because it doesn’t really fit into any of their other categories. This delicious dessert is composed of waffle cone pieces and your choice of ice cream flavors (we chose mint chip, coffee and strawberry). It’s topped with hot fudge, caramel, blueberries, whipped cream, almonds and a cherry. As a family of four, this was a great choice for us. We were all able to enjoy enough of the dish to satisfy our taste buds and go home rubbing our bellies because we were so incredibly satisfied and full.

Our server, Steven, was amazing. He was super nice, just like the rest of the cast. I also spoke to Erich Heileman, the general manager of the Buena Park location and he told us to keep an eye out for Pot ‘O Gold that comes out in March. It’s a mint chip ice cream sundae and looks super delish. He also shared with us a fun fact – there were over 1,500 applicants for this new location. Their application process is rigorous because of their high standards and they really focus on their customer’s satisfaction. It works!

We had a wonderful time at Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlour and we’re patiently waiting for reservations to open up so we can make a trip back. It’s also on our radar for an upcoming birthday party thanks to their Farrell’s Ice Cream Party options – parties start at $13.99 per person.

Hubster wanted to make sure that I mention the special fact that Farrell’s serves Mr. Pibb soda. If you’re a fan of this soft drink, you know just how rare it is for a restaurant to carry this brand. Check out everything we enjoyed during our visit in the video below or our Farrell’s photo album on our Facebook page, and make sure to make plans to attend if you’re in the area.

Knott’s for the Cure supports Susan G. Komen

Earlier this month, Knott’s Berry Farm kicked off its “Knott’s for the Cure” event – with a bang! They hosted speakers from the Knott’s team and Susan G Komen, as well as breast cancer survivors, a special heart healthy menu catered by Knott’s and a photo-op with breast cancer survivors on the Pony Express.

It was a day of up and downs. The stories were poignant, they were touching and they were filled with gratitude towards the Susan G Komen foundation and Knott’s Berry Farm because of their ongoing support for all the good they do.

From February 1 through March 31, Susan G. Komen Orange County and Knott’s Berry Farm are working together to raise money for breast cancer awareness, services and research by offering a special “Pink Ticket” and limited edition specially designed “pink” merchandise with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Komen Orange County. It’s an easy way to participate in Knott’s Berry Farm for the Cure while visiting the park.

Knott’s has created a supportive “Knott’s Berry Farm for the Cure” t-shirt that is available exclusively at select merchandise locations starting at $10.00 (plus tax) for adult sizes with proceeds benefiting Komen Orange County. It’s a great way to show your support for this worthy cause!

While in the park, you can also purchase a pink magnet, available exclusively at select Knott’s Berry Farm merchandise locations. After purchasing, place this magnet on the park’s commemorative pink magnet wall in honor of loved ones whose lives were touched by breast cancer. These magnets are available for $1.99 (plus tax) and ALL proceeds from the magnet sales benefit Susan G. Komen Orange County.

This simple purchase will go a long way for Susan G. Komen as they provide services in Orange County including education and early breast cancer detection, information and support for breast cancer survivors and families and funding for free mammograms for the underprivileged and uninsured (like me!). As a woman living in Orange County – without medical insurance – these programs are especially important to me because it means that me, my mom and others like us can still have preventive health care.

I invite you to help me support Knott’s Berry Farm for the Cure with a simple tweet using hashtag #KnottsPink. If you’re in Orange County, visit the park and support the cause through its various outlets.

One week of healthy changes makes a difference

I wrote this blog post as part of a movement by Weight Watchers to encourage people to remember that loving yourself starts with taking care of your health everyday. Though I was compensated for my time and commitment, all views, positive and negative, are my own.

Tips for healthy changes on the go | livingmividaloca.com #lovehealthyme

I’ve been working on losing my baby weight since… well since the second baby was born two and a half years ago. I’m 5’8″ and at a healthy 129 pounds (full transparency happening right now) but I don’t feel comfortable in my body. So while I was able to dip down to 122 pounds before, it just doesn’t seem like it’s happening again any time soon. Instead, I’ve refocused to leading a healthier lifestyle instead of just wanting to be skinny. It’s been a tough road for me because I keep pushing myself to lose just five pounds and it is super hard to do. But I’m sure that if I just keep on the road to being healthy, my mindset will change. That’s exactly why I started on this road on February 14 using activities shared by Weight Watchers Simple Start. I want to grow to love myself and my body for what it is. It’s been fun and I’ve even surprised myself!

Latina running on treadmill | LivingMiVidaLoca.com #lovehealthyme

I started by committing myself to exercise. Nothing hard core – just some running on the treadmill. My vida loca doesn’t allow me to get to the gym every day. However, having the treadmill in my home lets me schedule my workouts at my leisure. Unfortunately, that’s the tough part for me. There is always something that needs to be done before exercise so I needed to commit myself to it. Beginning February 14th until this morning, I ran a total of 14.56 miles. Some days I only managed to run a mile – but I wanted to establish a pattern. I did it! I also found that working out in the morning after dropping off the kid was the best time. If you can’t make it to the gym, or have a treadmill at your disposal, check out this sample workout from trainer David Kirsch for inspiration.

Then came the changes in my diet. I’m vegetarian, so I tend to eat a lot of cheese, bread and surprisingly, not many salads (I’m not a fan). So I started by making simple changes. I went out to Denny’s with the hubster and kids and ordered a veggie burger with a side of fruit instead of fries. That, right there, was an enormous sign of will power. I still can’t believe I was able to do that!

That little change made a big difference in me. It made me realize that an hour after I ate, I didn’t care that I didn’t have the fries. So if I didn’t miss the fries, why not keep doing it? I had that same feeling again when I stopped by a fresh fruit stand and purchased some fruit salads for the kids and I to share instead of going to our local fast food place and getting an ice cream cone and fries. These little changes made a difference.

Of course, I’m not perfect and I can’t give up all the foods I love. So come pizza night, I ordered a salad to enjoy before pizza. It made me fill up faster and I didn’t eat as much pizza as I usually do. And when we went to the theater to watch a movie, I threw in some cuties to snack on instead of popcorn and snuck in some water to drink, instead of sparkling water. I was on a roll!

And although I have a ton of work, I made sure to get enough sleep every day (8 hours!) and I felt ready to take on the day in the morning. Now I know why it’s recommended to get plenty of sleep.

I worked pretty darn hard this week so I rewards myself by getting reading a magazine and watching my favorite movie, About Time, without any interruptions! Hubster took the kids to the park and I chilled out at home. It was amazing.

I am totally on the road to a healthier me and it just took some minor changes! My skin feels better, my soul feels refreshed and physically, I feel stronger. I’m going to stay on this road to a healthier me because I feel ¡fantastica!
