Life in Orange County

A typical day in the life of a Latina mom

This is part of a sponsored campaign with Being Latino and Honey Maid. However, all opinions expressed are my own.

Living the Southern California lifestyle includes many sunny days where it makes no sense to spend it indoors, especially with kids in tow. We love spending our after school time trying out different parks around our community. I have two kids in elementary, one in pre-k and one in a mommy and me play group, so this means many hours spent out and about (which I absolutely love).

A typical week for me includes dropping off kids to two schools at various times. On Wednesday I attend a literacy program to help bilingual families, like ours, practice reading in Spanish to our kids. This day is specially hard since I am out of the house during lunch time with my three year old. He and I both need snacks that will be filling and nutritious. Thursdays are another on the go days. After dropping off my son at pre-k, I take my three year old to a Mommy and Me playgroup. He loves spending one-on-one time with me. These days also require a snack and some organizing. My cell phone is my best organizing tool. I put alarms on that go off 45-30 minutes before all of our activities, just in case I forget. I also do the old fashioned way of hanging a calendar in our kitchen and noting upcoming events.

I have found that what helps me the most is time management and shopping smarter. I make sure when I go grocery shopping to buy healthy snacks for those busy days. On the days we are going to be out, I make sure to get ready at least 20-30 minutes earlier than normal to prepare lunch and snacks. I also make it a point to always have bottles of waters in our vehicles, especially since many times kids are not hungry, just dehydrated. It also makes for a healthy alternative to those sugar-packed juice boxes. My go-to snacks that I know my kids love are cuties, bananas, carrots, hummus, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I recently added Honey Maid Go Bites to my repertoire and the kids and I are loving them. Honey Maid Go Bites are small squares with either vanilla or chocolate filling. Each serving of 26 pieces has 5 grams of protein and 7grams of whole grains. The kids love the slightly sweet snack.

Our family is constantly on the move from school, track practice, playgroups or family park outings. Those busy days are made less stressful with planning and some easy on-the-go snacks. Stock your pantry with healthy and easy snacks that kids want. A sweet addition to our on the Go staples are the yummy Honey Maid Go bites found in our local grocery store. It makes being an on-the-go family a whole lot easier.
