There are a few things on my bucket list that will need to be gifted to me by others. One of these is a serenata (serenade) by a Mariachi – preferably on my birthday or Mother’s Day. There is just something so magical and incredibly moving about Mariachi. It’s full of tradition, and often, will bring tears to my eyes because it is then that I remember my Dad and how much he liked that type of music too. So much so that my parents put me in folkloric dance classes when I was younger! So while I don’t dance anymore, listening to this very traditional music is something that I will never say no to. And on June 29, 2013, I get to do it for four and a half hours at the Hollywood Bowl!
The MARIACHI USA Festival will feature Mexico’s legendary Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan, Grammy Nominee Mariachi Los Arrieros del Valle from Texas, the popular Mariachi Estrella de Jalisco and Mariachi Los Reyes both from Los Angeles. Also celebrating their debut at the Festival will be Grammy Nominee, Trio Ellas. The 20 member Mi Tierra Ballet Folklorico adds to the evening’s extravaganza with their amazing choreography and colorful costumes. It’s sounding to be like a spectacular event and I cannot wait to share pictures and videos from the event.
A musical tribute to legendary composer and performer Jose Alfredo Jimenez is slated for this year’s show. Jimenez wrote over 1,000 songs, amongst the most famous of these; El Rey, Ella and Si nos Dejan.
The 2013 MARIACHI USA festival will also celebrate 24 years at the Hollywood Bowl, thanks to the multi-talented artist-producer, Rodri J. Rodriguez. The gal who started it all in 1990. This iconic event is considered the preeminent Mariachi festival in the world. It draws a cross generational audience with the majority being Retro-acculturated Latinos passionately in search of celebrating family, pride and tradition (this would be me). If you’re interested in attending, tickets are still available via Ticketmaster, and since it doesn’t start until 6 p.m., you have time to invite the whole family and make an evening out of it!
This is not a sponsored post. I received complimentary tickets to attend the event. All thoughts and opinions remain my own.
