As I sit in my bed writing, I am reminiscing on what a great bonding experience my family and I had at Hofsas House Hotel at Carmel-by-the-Sea. Eating breakfast by the fireplace and having a bonfire at Carmel beach made us appreciate our kids’ childhood even more so. We were fortunate to have stayed at the Hofsas House Hotel where we were taken back to a time with less tablets and iPhones and more one-on-one time and nature.
Hofsas House Hotel is a family run boutique hotel with so much history and personality. The hotel has been in the family for over 60 years, spanning out three generations. The Bavarian (mix of German and Swiss) decorations in the rooms and architecture add to the charm of the city of Carmel-by-the-Sea. Each one of the 38 rooms has distinct decorations that make it feel homier. You soon realize that someone took the time to plan out every detail of your room.
The welcoming mural was painted by Donna Hofsas’s friend, Maxine Albro, which encompasses the general vibe of the hotel. A unique European design with so much charm and dignity.
We are a very big brood, five kids under eight and two adults, so it’s not easy to find accommodations that will fit our needs. Luckily, Hofsas House Hotel has 38 different rooms to suit your needs with fireplaces, private balconies, wet bars, kitchens and WiFi. Our suite was able to handle the Pedroza squad, so you definitely know it was big enough. It had a master bedroom with a king bed, fireplace, and kitchenette. The adjoining bedroom is separated by a door, so the kids can have some privacy (ha! the kids need privacy *wink, wink*). They also had their own bathroom and tv console so they loved closing the door and feeling very independent.
One of my favorite moments of our stay at Hofsas House Hotel was during our breakfast. The boys sat on the edge of the fireplace while we sat at the table taking in the view. It was a picture perfect moment of us enjoying breakfast and each others company.
I highly appreciate all the amenities and tips I got from Hofsas House. They offer many add-ons to your stay which makes vacationing hassle-free. The fireplace in the room was just the beginning to the wine and cheese add-on set up for us before our arrival. It was perfect after our seven hour drive with five kids. We sat by the fireplace and enjoyed some amazing cheese and wine.
We also enjoyed a beach fire and s’mores provided in a bundle by Hofsas House Hotel. It was everything we needed for a bonfire at Carmel beach. This is definitely a must in Carmel because you don’t need a fire pit, all you do is set up a bonfire in the beautiful white sand. Some other offerings include in-room massages, deals on golf and Monterrey Bay Aquarium.
The best amenity that Hofsas House boutique hotel has to offer is its service. Owner, Carrie Theis, was invaluable to our planning and knowledge of Carmel-by-the-Sea. She knew the perfect spot for our lunch at Point Lobos, even lending us some binoculars. Carrie also had great suggestions for lunch and dinner, all of which were walking distance from the hotel. Her love of Carmel is apparent in the way she talks about what it means to stay there. It’s all about slowing down, walking to the shops and wineries, and taking in the scenery that mother nature has provided.
We left Hofsas House at Carmel-by-the-sea with a single thought, “Next time we come…” There was not enough time to do or see it all! Next time we come, we’ll have to catch a few more sunsets – and definitely another bonfire.
Hofsas House Hotel is located on San Carlos Street, north of Fourth Avenue in Carmel-by-the-Sea. For more information, call (831) 624-2745 or visit http://www.hofsashouse.com.
