Choosing the right word for 2014

When I began writing this post I didn’t realize that choosing a word for the year was a “thing.” I just wanted a sort of mantra that I could repeat to myself over and over again until I got it right. Turns out, I’m in good company. There are plenty of people who have a word – it helps to keep things in perspective and goals in tact. So… here I go.

My life is too complicated sometimes. I long for the easy, organized life that is represented in magazines and television. A few months ago when I thought for sure my home was going to catch on fire I caught myself grabbing three things – my laptop, my handbag and my photo album (besides the kids, of course). Once realizing that I was safe, it hit me that in a blink of an eye, I had everything that I would really want in my hands. And so the road to simplifying my life began. I started by donating as much as I could let go of without having that needing-it-later feeling. It was tough. But as I started going down the road, it got much easier. I gave away boxes of my things, my kids toys, clothes, kitchen utensils, furniture and so much more. I shipped some things to my cousin and her family in Arizona, gave away more to my mom, thrift stores and then to my neighbors.

2014 will get me on my way to simplifying the rest of my life. I will continue to weed through my belongings until I have trimmed more from my incredibly materialistic life. I’ll also make minor adjustments to help me simplify how I lead my life including a simple savings plan, great go-to outfits, an easy cleaning schedule, fast facials and so much more. Look for these blog posts in the year to come – I hope that they’ll help you simplify your life as well.

Thank you for an amazing 2013, may 2014 bring you everything you’re looking for, and more.

Abrazos,
Pattie
